WHY I BECAME A FINANCIAL ADVISOR

My first encounter with financial planning occurred in my mid-thirties when I realized that I needed to plan more systematically for my family. I grew up in Kentucky in a family with wonderful parents, but financial planning wasn’t among their strengths. As an investment lawyer, that side of financial planning came more naturally to me, but at the time I had little life insurance and no estate plan. I sought out a financial advisor of my own, who was helpful in getting me organized and covering all the important bases, but I balked at buying their commissioned investment products.

I thoroughly enjoyed the planning process, however, which led to my studying to become a Certified Financial Planner™ for my own benefit. I always had an entrepreneurial inclination, and down the professional road, I decided to start my own business. The prospect of helping individuals and families achieve financial security while satisfying my personal needs for autonomy and deep intellectual stimulation made becoming an independent financial advisor a perfect match for me. Twenty-five years later, I still consider myself extraordinarily fortunate to do such emotionally and intellectually fulfilling work, along with a terrific professional team, for a great group of clients.
